There is something about golden girl Dominique
Donner thats sure to inspire red-blooded men to
poetry.
And its not just
that the lithe lovely's surname (pronounced Dunner)
lends itself to limericking - runner and stunner,
both apt descriptions of this 28 year old professional
athlete and covergirl.
It's also that
the (naturally) fair Dominique will be one of
the more eye-catching competitors in tomorrows
Abraxas Technologies SA nAtional Triathlon Champs
at Club Mykonos.
This will involve
a 1.5km swim, a 40km cycle and a 20km run. How
does our Western Cape contender rate her chances?
"I think I can bring the gold home. I I've
been training for eight weeks now and I'm really
ready and psyched for this event."
It's not the gold
thats the main prize for this former St Cyprians
schoolgirl, but the fact that the event is an
Olympic qualifyer for Sydney 2000, the first year
that the triathlon will be staged at a modern
day Olympic Games.
Dominiques competitive
aspiration has not been fostered in isolation:
she's been training over the last fortnight with
the Gauteng regional winner, Kim Carter, as well
as visiting international Lizel Moore from Australia.
" I suppose we must look like Charlie's angels
when we take to the streets of Cape Town in our
training gear!" she admits. Poetry in motion
indeed!
