Dominique Donner is a Springbok triathlete and
a member of the South African Tiathlon Olympic
Squad for Sydney 2000. Triathlon is fast becoming
one of the freshest and most exciting Olympic
sports. and this year the woman's triathlon will
be the event to open the games.
Dominique is already
a leader in her field, and has featured on and
between the covers of several sporting magazines
including Tiathlete, Runners World and SA Sports
Illustrated. She is ranked in the top 50 triathletes
in the world, and each of the world cup tiathlon
qualifyin g races she takes part in is broadcast
to over 250 million people in more than 50 countries
worldwide.
Dominique, 28,
began her athletic career as a swimmer for Western
Province, and has been awarded Springbok colours
for both triathlon and biathlon. One of Dominiques
official sponsors is Reebok and as she admits,
'One has to find the right shoes, clothes, everthing.
It can make the difference betweeen winning and
coming second , or between injury free running
and endless sprains and stress fractures.'
In her training
preparation for the Sydney 2000 Olympics, Dominique
refuses to be intimidated by fear. It is an attitude
which should stand her well. In her words, 'One
needs to approach all one does with an attitude
of fight, not fear, in order to reach full potential.'
